Located on the campus of Trinity College, Cinestudio might be one of the most unique movie houses anywhere near Broadleaf Boulevard. While most screening rooms are wedged into big box structures, Cinestudio is located in a former lecture hall at the college’s Clement Chemistry Building.
Founded as a cooperative in 1970, Cinestudio is run by a staff of approximately 50 student and community volunteers. The programming here is diverse and progressive; Cinestudio has always had a reputation for screening controversial and challenging work, and that continues to this day.
The ambience in the screening room hearkens back to the opulent movie palaces of the 1930s, with a gold-trimmed curtain that opens before every show and a massive screen that welcomes films up to 70mm. Seats in the balcony offer the best view.
